A man has repeatedly fired a gun into the air outside a petrol station in Melbourne’s west.

The man began firing the weapon near Seasons Blvd in Tarneit at about 11.30pm on Thursday, police said.

Officers and the police Airwing observed from a distance until it was safe to move in.

They arrested the man about 5am on Friday.

The 43-year-old Tarneit man is assisting police with their inquiries.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact police.
