In CCTV footage provided to 7NEWS from a neighbour, police can be heard yelling, “he’s got a knife, he’s got a knife” and “drop the knife” before gunshots can be heard.

Detective Inspector Joseph Zitny said police were originally called out in relation to a “wanted person inquiry”.

“An altercation took place between a male occupant and the police,” he said.

“(This) resulted in a police firearm being presented and discharged and a 46-year-old male has sustained an injury.”

Zitny confirmed there were three other occupants inside the home at the time of the shooting, including a child, while five police were in attendance.

“At this stage, they are witnesses and ultimately their information will form part of our investigation and give us a picture of what actually took place,” he said.

“As you can appreciate, it’s a very unpleasant circumstance and position to be in.”

The man remains in a critical condition under police guard and is expected to undergo surgery.

The Queensland Police Ethical Standards Command is investigating what led to the shooting.
