He has been identified as a resident of Clagiraba in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Bailey Cunningham, who was riding a jet ski nearby, said he was alerted to the incident by a friend of the man.

“His friend was in hysterics, so he was trying to tell me where he was, because you could see the bubbles,” Cunningham said.

“(I) jumped off, jumped in to see if I could see, but it (the water) was dark.”

Police are seeking to determine how the boat crashed, appealing for witnesses to come forward if they haven’t already done so.

The incident will be referred to the coroner.
