Maroubra: Woman’s body found in beachside suburb in Sydney, man assisting police

A man is in custody assisting police after the body of a woman was located in an ocean-side suburb just streets away from a popular beach.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were called to Astoria Circuit in Maroubra shortly before midday on Monday following reports that a woman’s body had been found.

The woman, who is yet to formally be identified, is believed to be in her 60s.

“Officers have commenced an investigation and established a crime scene,” a police spokesperson said.

A 50-year-old man has been taken to Maroubra Police Station in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and is assisting police with inquiries.

Authorities have confirmed that a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
