A murder probe is under way following the death of a man at a caravan park in Victoria.

About 3.10am on Saturday two men were found injured and unresponsive in a park in Waverley Avenue, Merrigum.

One of the men was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but the other could not be revived.

Police were called to the park following reports of an assault.

Urgent medical care was provided to the pair and CPR performed on one of them, but he could not be resuscitated and died at the scene.

Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman of Victoria Police said in a statement that investigations into what happened were now under way.

“Local police provided immediate assistance to the pair and performed CPR on one of the men, who couldn’t be revived,” she said.

“Homicide Squad detectives are attending the scene and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.”
