A seven-year-old girl has died after being struck by a falling palm tree in Tiwi – in North Darwin – on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to a property just before 2pm, where the child had been playing in the yard when the tree suddenly fell.

Despite efforts by paramedics, she was pronounced dead before reaching Royal Darwin Hospital.

An 11-year-old boy was also hit by the tree and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Investigations are ongoing, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
