Man charged with murder after fisherman allegedly killed on Frankston Pier

A 36-year-old man with no fixed address has been charged with murder after the body of a man was found dead on a Melbourne pier.

Police and paramedics were called to Frankston Pier, which runs off Pier Promenade, after reports of an assault about halfway down the pier just after 6am on Saturday.

An injured 45-year-old Cranbourne North man was found at the scene. He died shortly after.

Officers found the second man on the foreshore nearby.

The 36-year-old man will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Sunday.

“The area has been cordoned off, and a crime scene established,” police said.

“Homicide Squad detectives are investigating and at this stage are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.”

Police said the men were not known to one another.
