A warning has been issued to parents after an alleged attempted abduction outside a primary school in Sydney’s north on Monday afternoon.

Police allege a primary school student was approached by two younger boys while walking home from Warrawee Public School at 3.15pm.

It is further alleged the two youths, who were travelling in a silver or white sedan that may have been displaying red P plates, pulled up on Campbell Drive and attempted to drag the student into the car.

The boys were unsuccessful in the alleged abduction, with the student managing to break free and alert his parents to the incident.

The frightening encounter prompted the public school’s principal, Meriki Barnes, to issue an email alert to parents on Tuesday, urging them to reconsider letting their kids walk to and from school.

“Please consider your child’s mode of transport to and from school, to ensure they remain as safe as possible,” the email stated, according to news.com.au.

Parents expressed their concerns over the safety of their kids in the wake of the near-abduction.

“We really want (our son) to be independent, but it’s quite scary,” a father told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“It’s concerning because a lot of kids walk home that way and there’s quite a bit of traffic so it is pretty brazen to be doing that.”

Police are on the hunt for the accused perpetrators and are appealing for the public to help with the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage of the vehicle in the streets surrounding Campbell Drive Wahroonga, Roland Ave, Lucinda Ave South, Rothwell Rd, Mitchell Crescent and Fox Valley Way are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
