Ballina fatal crash: Young man charged over collision that killed 62yo in NSW’s Northern Rivers region

A young man is facing a string of dangerous driving charges over a crash that killed a 62-year-old man in NSW’s Northern Rivers region last year.

The then 18-year-old was allegedly driving a Honda Accord dangerously along Tamarind Drive in Ballina when he crashed into a Hyundai i30, about 5.45pm on September 18.

Police pulled the 62-year-old driver from the Hyundai and he was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene; but couldn’t be revived, NSW Police said.

The teen was also treated at the scene before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital for further treatment.

The now 19-year-old was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death — driving in a dangerous manner, negligent driving — occasioning death, negligent driving and driving on or over a continuous line near a painted island.

He was given a court attendance notice today, and is set to appear before Ballina Local Court on May 1.

The man’s licence has also been suspended.
