Two men aged 75 and 71 were attacked just hours apart, with police releasing a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to.

Police are searching for a man after two elderly men were struck in the face and head with a hammer in separate, “random” attacks in Sydney’s north-west.

The disturbing incidents unfolded just hours apart in Eastwood, leaving two men aged 75 and 71 in hospital.

The first attack occurred about 9pm on Tuesday when a 75-year-old man answered a knock at the front door of his home on Doomben Avenue.

Police said the man was inside his home when someone knocked on the door and “he was struck in the face with the hammer”.

Emergency services rushed to the property, where paramedics treated the man before taking him to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.

Less than 10 hours later, another elderly man was attacked in a nearby park.

Emergency services were called to a park on the corner of Blaxland Road and Doomben Avenue shortly before 7am on Wednesday after a 71-year-old man was struck several times in the face and head with a hammer.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before also being rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

“Crime scenes were established at both locations that were examined by specialist police,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

“The incidents are believed to be random.”

As detectives investigate whether the incidents are linked, police have released a CCTV image of a man they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 30s, about 170cm tall and with light brown hair.

He was pictured wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit and carrying a green Woolworths shopping bag.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of either attack to come forward, particularly those with dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage.

Police are specifically seeking dashcam footage from vehicles travelling along Blaxland Road between 6.30am and 7.10am on Wednesday.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Ryde Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
