Goulburn shooting: Man and boy charged after nine-year-old shot and killed on NSW property

Two people including a teenager have been charged over the accidental shooting death of a nine-year-old boy in rural New South Wales.

A nine-year-old boy has been shot and killed and a man and another boy have been charged over the death at a rural property in New South Wales on the weekend.

In harrowing scenes, emergency services tried in vain to save the life of the young boy after he was shot in the neck at a property outside of Goulburn on Sunday.

A man and a teenager have now been charged following the fatal unintentional discharge of the firearm.

At about 11.20am on Sunday, emergency services were called to the property on Fernleigh Close, Windellama, following reports of the shooting.

Officers were told the boy had been injured after a gun was discharged the unintentional discharged before he was treated for serious neck injuries by paramedics, however, he died at the scene.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation under Strike Force Dalzeill and following inquiries a 14-year-old boy and a 33-year-old man were arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station.

The 14-year-old boy was charged with possing an unauthorised firearm and granted conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on Thursday.

The 33-year-old man was charged with allowing an unauthorised person to possess a firearm and not keeping the firearm safely and will appear before Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday.
