A major motorway in Sydney has been thrown into chaos after a traffic crash caused significant delays.

A truck and a car collided on the Horsley Drive section of the M7 motorway and emergency services have attended the scene.

Ambulance paramedics have attended to a woman in her 60s who reportedly experienced chest pain which has delayed the removal of the vehicles.

The traffic snarl is banked back for at least 18km and motorists are advised to find alternative routes for the morning peak.
