Man charged after NSW Police seize drugs, firearms and more than 100 snakes from Kelso, Eglinton properties

Police have made a sizeable discovery of the slithery kind, seizing more than 100 snakes while executing a search warrant in the Central Tablelands in rural NSW.

Police raided the property at Bonner Street, Kelso, about 6.30am Wednesday after reports a man had allegedly sold cannabis from a home the day before.

During the search, police allegedly found 300g of cannabis, a mobile phone and five prohibited knives.

Further inquiries led police to search a shed at Eleven Mile Drive, Eglinton, where officers allegedly found and seized eight replica firearms and made a scaly discovery.

“Officers, with the assistance of a NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water investigator, also located and seized more than 100 snakes at the two properties,” a police statement read.

A variety of snake breeds were found in glass enclosures, including some in the pythonidae family.

A 50-year-old man was arrested at the scene. He was charged with a string of offences including not keeping a firearm safely, possessing more than three unregistered firearms, including a prohibited pistol, supplying a prohibited drug, possessing or using a prohibited weapon, supplying a prohibited drug to a child under 16, and knowingly allowing use of a property as a drug premises.

Police will allege in court the man breached his reptile licence.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Bathurst Local Court today.
