Man charged over the alleged murder of four people killed in Wardell car crash

A man has been charged with allegedly murdering four people who died in a car crash in northern NSW.
Alec St Clair, 29, was allegedly trying to rob the occupants of a car when it veered off the road and crashed into a tree at Wardell, near Ballina, on February 24 last year.
Driver Mark Dodds, 36, and passengers Sophie-Lee Fullagar, 33, Benjamin Watego, 50, and James Doherty, 42, all died at the scene.

Police will allege the blue ute crashed while St Clair was pursuing it in a silver Toyota Corolla.
He has been charged with four counts of murder, assault with intent to rob armed with offensive weapon and cause wounding/grievous bodily harm.


He was refused bail to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court on Tuesday, where he was formally refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court on May 14.
Investigations under Strike Force Land are continuing.
