Police are investigating after a 19-year-old woman was found dead at a unit in North Bondi on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were called to a unit on Hardy Street in North Bondi about 9.20am on Tuesday after reports a woman had been found unresponsive.

Police and paramedics located the body of a woman — who is yet to be formally identified, but is believed to be 19 years of age.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway.

Detectives have cordoned off the apartment, which is in a brick complex near public high school Rose Bay Secondary College.

An Israeli flag flies a couple of levels above the unit, which faces into a garden of eucalyptus and bird of paradise plants.

Bracha Kadoury, who lives across from the apartment complex, said police had cordoned off Hardy St for a few hours on Tuesday morning.

Ms Kadoury said officers often attended the apartment complex over matters such as domestic violence and other offending and said she was shocked to learn a young woman had died.

Ms Kadoury said she was unsettled by the death and things had felt off since the Bondi Junction massacre, which claimed the lives of six innocent people, just weeks earlier.

“It feels a bit like what’s happening to this town?,” she said.

“We were actually discussing it, me and the kids. There’s tension in the air I think, something’s around. People are being a bit agitated and violent, kind of on the edge a bit. Hopefully things will be taken care of and get back to normal.”

Police say a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the woman’s cause of death.

A 32-year-old man, who had an outstanding warrant, was arrested at the home and taken to Waverley Police Station, where he is assisting with inquiries.

The investigation is ongoing.
