Nursing home: Woman arrested after body of 83-year-old aged care resident found dead in Rooty Hill

A woman is in custody after the body of an 84-year-old woman was found inside a nursing home.

The horrific discovery was made around 11.45pm on Thursday, following reports to police.

NSW Police attended the aged care facility on Evans Road, Rooty Hill, confirming in a statement that the body was found inside the building.

The elderly woman is understood to be a resident of the nursing home.

A woman, 53, believed to be known to the elderly woman found dead, was arrested at the scene.

Police are yet to share details of her exact relationship with the elderly woman or why she was at the aged care facility.

NSW Police confirmed a crime scene had been established after initial inquiries.

The 53-year-old woman was taken to Mount Druitt Hospital for assessment.

The aged care facility, Our Lady of Consolation, said staff were distressed.

“Our Lady of Consolation Aged Care has confirmed that a resident was found deceased by staff around midnight on Thursday 25th June. Staff called Police as the cause of death was unknown. Police attended and are in the process of investigating the situation. The circumstances of the resident’s death remain unknown at this stage,” a statement said.

David Maher, chief executive added: “The Board and staff of Our Lady of Consolation are distressed by the death of our resident, and our thoughts are with their family and loved ones at this time.”

“We are continuing to work with the Police and supporting them in their investigations. We will continue to offer support to our residents and staff during this time.”

No charges have been laid, and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
