Penrith Weir: Man fighting for life after near drowning, son hospitalised

A man has been pulled unresponsive from the water and his 14-year-old son rescued after the pair got into trouble at Penrith Weir.

A man has been pulled unresponsive from the water, and his 14-year-old son was rescued after the pair got into trouble at Penrith Weir.

It is understood they were trying to cross the weir at Emu Plains about 10.45 on Friday when things took a turn.

Bystanders rescued the 38-year-old father while his son was brought to shore by a NSW Fire and Rescue crew.

Both were treated by paramedics at the scene before the man was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

The teen was taken to Nepean Hospital as a precaution.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
