Police investigate fatal stabbing of man, 33, in Mt Druitt, Sydney

Police are hunting up to a dozen people after a young father was stabbed to death in Sydney’s west.
CCTV captured the moment Joshua Smith takes off down a Mount Druitt laneway about 9pm on Friday running from his attackers, but seconds later they catch up.

The tradie was stabbed twice in the stomach and repeatedly kicked before the attackers make a run for it.
A security guard from a nearby pub phones triple-0, but it’s too late.
“I would say it’s a horrendous incident and it’s certainly concerning for police,” Superintendent Brendan Gorman said.


When emergency services arrived at Cleeve Cl after reports of an assault, Smith was found with stab wounds to his stomach and was declared dead at the scene.
“I just hear like they were screaming when there someone was on the ground and straight away were called the cops,” a witness said.
Witnesses have told 7NEWS some of those involved are school-aged children.
“Maybe some of them are 11, 12, 13, 14,” a witness said.
Detectives and forensic officers scoured the street for any clues on Saturday.


Two of the three attackers were spotted at the railway station boarding a train about 10.30pm and fleeing the area.
Detectives are now trawling security video, trying to work out where they went and who they are.
“Police have seized a number of videos from CCTV and also mobile phone videos that have been circulated,” Gorman said.
