Police officer seriously injured after being stabbed with sword during callout in Grasmere, Sydney

A man has been charged after he allegedly stabbed a young cop in the leg with a sword in Sydney’s southwest.

The probationary constable, 28, was among other officers who had been called to a home on Werombi Rd in Grasmere about 5.20pm Friday over reports a person had breached an apprehended violence order.

As police attempted to arrest a 20-year-old man at the property, he allegedly launched a spear at the cops before stabbing the constable in the leg with a sword.

Police tasered the man before taking him into custody.

The officer was treated by paramedics and airlifted to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Detectives seized a knife, hatchet and spear from the scene.

The 20-year-old man has since been charged with 11 offences including two counts of attempted murder, four counts of wounding a person with the intent to resist arrest and breaching bail.

He was bail refused to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.

Police are expected to share more information about what happened at a press conference around midday.
