Police have shot an armed man after he allegedly bashed two women during a rampage inside a Sydney apartment block.

Police have shot an armed man after he allegedly bashed two women during a rampage inside a Sydney apartment block.

A critical incident scene has been declared after the man was shot in Potts Point on Tuesday morning.

Officers from the nearby Kings Cross station responded to calls that a man had entered the unit complex on Neot Avenue and allegedly assaulted the two women at around about 10.50am.

Police tried to taser the man, but it did not stop him.

Officers were then forced to shoot the man as he continued to threaten them with a weapon.

The condition of those injured is not known at this stage, according to a police statement.
