Random breath test delivers NSW police unexpected haul as driver arrested with truckload of cannabis

Police have uncovered more than they bargained for as a man stopped for a random breath test was arrested for transporting a large amount of cannabis in a truck.

The man has been charged after cannabis leaf was allegedly seized during a road stop in the southern region of NSW.

At about 8am on Saturday (15 June 2024), Riverina Traffic and Highway were patrolling the Sturt Highway at Euroley, approximately 33km, north-east of Narrandera, when they pulled over the driver of a light rigid pantech for the random breath test.

During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly seized five boxes containing 106 cryovac bags containing approximately 500 grams of cannabis leaf each – weighing close to 55kg in total.

The 28-year-old male driver was arrested and taken to Griffith Police Station.

He was charged with supply prohibited drug - commercial quantity - and possess a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court.
