Scare for shoppers at Westfield Miranda after small explosion in toilet

A small explosion reportedly took place inside a Westfield bathroom on Wednesday afternoon.

The explosion in the Westfield Miranda toilets reportedly knocked at least one person to the ground shortly after a man carrying chemicals is believed to have entered the bathroom, 7NEWS understands.

Police received reports of a male “seen throwing bottles inside a bathroom on level 1” of the shopping centre.

Several bottles were located upon arrival and seized for further forensic analysis.

“There is no ongoing threat and the shopping centre was not evacuated.”

A 21-year-old man was arrested nearby and was taken to Sutherland Police Station, where he is assisting police with inquiries.

Investigations are ongoing.
