Disturbing footage has emerged of the moments prior to a deadly attack that left one man dead and another fighting for his life.

Police discovered the body of 44-year-old Gordon Kessey in a park on East Street in Bega, southern NSW, about 2am on Monday after receiving calls for a concern for welfare.

Locals heard a group of men arguing shortly before breaking out into a brawl, reportedly armed with a number of weapons including a chainsaw.

Footage taken by one concerned local captured the loud revs of a power tool drowning out the ongoing confrontation.

“What the f*** have I walked into,” the neighbour says in the video.

Several loud bangs can then be heard before a woman begins to scream and the tool returns to an idle.

Police are investigating whether drugs were a motive behind the attack which on top of the death of Kessey has also left one man in a critical condition in hospital.

Kessey’s long-time partner, Amanda Manton, said she was not far from the incident and followed police to the scene only to be told by a woman that “they’ve got your man down there with the chainsaw”.

“I walked up (to the scene) because there was cops everywhere, assuming that he (Gordon) had gone to hospital or something,” she told the Daily Telegraph, “and one of the officers said: ‘He’s deceased, he’s been found deceased in the park’.”

“I said: ‘No, what do you mean, he can’t be?’ I just lost my s**t.”

Manton also revealed that her partner had been working on turning his life around after years of drug addiction and jail time.

She later took to social media to pay respects to her partner, writing: “I’m Gunna miss U Gorgon (sic), I loved with all my heart”.

“11 years of us together, don’t worry Ur (sic) death won’t be forgotten,” she added.

Police have established a crime scene and are inquiring into the attack with help from detectives attached to the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
