A major search and rescue operation was launched after two swimmers got into trouble.
A swimmer has died and another has been rescued after the pair got into trouble in the water in Sydney’s south.
Emergency services were called to Marley Beach in Marley about 12.50pm on Thursday following reports two swimmers were struggling in the water.
An urgent search was launched, and a 20-year-old man was found after waves washed him back towards the shore.

The man was taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition.
A short time later, officers from the Marine Area Command found the body of a 50-year-old man in the water.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
