A primary school teacher has been charged with possessing child abuse material, and accused of allegedly filming the private parts of students with his mobile phone.

Police were called to a primary school at Narellan, in southwest Sydney, at about 1.30pm on Monday after reports of an incident involving a teacher at the school.

Officers attached to the Camden Police Area Command were told the teacher, identified as 30-year-old Guy Meogrossi, “used his phone to make recordings of students”.

It is understood Meogrossi taught Year 6 students at Spring Farm Public School in the southwest Sydney suburb.

Meogrossi was arrested and charged with one aggravated and one non-aggravated count of filming a person’s private parts without consent, and one count of producing child abuse material..

He was refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court on Tuesday. Police investigations continue.

A NSW Department of Education spokesman confirmed that “the employee had been removed from teaching duties”, and told The Nightly the department was working closely with police.

“The safety of students is always our number one priority,” he said.

“Support and counselling services are available for students and staff members.”

Meogrossi’s name has been removed from the staff list on the school’s website.

It is understood that as well as teaching, Meogrossi helped coach the school’s touch football team and organised its Jump Rope For Heart charity challenge last year.
