Sydney train network in chaos after strike

Sydney commuters have vented their frustration after rail workers called a snap strike which affected many services leading into the Thursday morning peak.

The early morning industrial strike plunged the train network into chaos, leaving commuters stranded as services ground to a halt.

Shift workers arrived to empty platforms as they tried to get to early start shifts and the flow on heard some complaining they would be ‘hours’ late to work.

The strike reportedly only lasted five minutes but the flow-on effects were significant with rail lines across Sydney impacted.

One caller to 2GB said they were at Sutherland train station and did not see a train for a ‘whole hour’ as they tried to get to work.

Trains at Macarthur station in the far southwest of the city were infrequent with some only moving one station and then stopping for extended periods.
