A teenager has allegedly been stabbed to death behind a primary school in northwest Sydney.

Emergency services were called to the area behind Ironbark Ridge Public School in Rouse Hill on Monday afternoon following reports of a stabbing.

It is understood the 17-year-old boy suffered a fatal knife wound to his leg.

Despite paramedics’ efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives remained on the scene as of 6pm, searching for weapons and possible suspects.

7NEWS understands two boys were seen running from the scene, one of them reportedly wearing a school uniform.

Police have established a crime scene, and investigations are ongoing.

Attorney General Michelle Rowland said in a social media post that she was “deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of a young life”.

“My thoughts and deepest condolences are with the young boy’s family during this extremely difficult time,” she wrote.

“There is no place in our community for these acts of senseless violence, and I know this news will be particularly distressing for local families.

“May he rest in peace.”
