A window cleaner is in an induced coma with a traumatic brain injury, shattered skull and several broken bones after falling from a roof.

Luis “Lucho” Bonilla, a 37-year-old from Colombia, was working on a residential building at the corner of Rothschild Ave and Epsom Rd in Sydney’s inner southern suburb of Rosebery about 11am last Friday when he fell.

The fall left him with a severe traumatic brain injury, multiple skull fractures with an extradural haematoma, and femoral, rib and forearm fractures, according to a GoFundMe page set up by his friends.

“Lucho is currently in a critical condition and remains in an induced coma while he receives urgent medical care,” the fundraiser said.

Bonilla is still being treated at Royal North Shore Hospital, where he faces a long road ahead that will include more surgeries, treatment, therapy and long-term rehabilitation.

He underwent two surgeries on Monday for his femur and forearm fractures and remains in an induced coma.

“Our dear friend Luis ‘Lucho’ Bonilla is one of the most heart-warming, noble, and generous people you could ever meet,” his friends wrote.

The young worker travelled to Australia as an international student and has been working “tirelessly” to build a better future for himself and for his family back home.

His parents are now trying to travel from Colombia to Australia to help care for their son.

“His family will also be facing significant emotional and financial burdens as they support him daily and navigate travel, living costs, and medical expenses,” the page says, calling for donations.

“During this incredibly difficult time, his family and friends kindly ask for your support, love, and prayers.”

SafeWork NSW said it had been notified of the incident and inspectors attended the site in response.

“Falls from heights is a SafeWork NSW high risk focus area and is one of five regulatory priorities,” a spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au.

Enquiries are ongoing.
