Tragic end in search for missing five-year-old boy with autism

A body has been located during the search for a missing boy in Sydney’s southwest.

The five-year-old was reported missing when he vanished from Epsom Street, Chipping Norton just after 6.35pm on Thursday, wearing a black and white skeleton onesie and no shoes.

It’s understood he lives with autism and is nonverbal, but responds to his name.

“Police commenced inquiries into his whereabouts and a search continued in the Chipping Norton and surrounding areas,” police said.

Just after 10pm, police confirmed a body had been located in the nearby Georges River during the search.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the missing boy.

Police are not treating the matter as suspicious at this stage.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
