Warilla: Woman killed after fire engulfs house on NSW South Coast

Rescue services tried in vain to save a woman who has been killed after a fire engulfed a property on the NSW South Coast.

A woman has been confirmed dead in the house fire near Shellharbour on Friday after police were called to Bradman Avenue, Warilla at around 11:55am, following reports of a house fire.

On arrival, officers attached to Lake Illawarra police district found the house well alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews extinguished the blaze, before recovering the body of a woman on the property.

She is yet to be formally identified, however believed to be aged in her 70s.

Police have established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report is being prepared for the information of the Coroner.
