A man will face court on Monday after allegedly trying to secretly film a woman inside a shopping centre toilet in Sydney’s north-west.

Police said they were called to Anthony Road, West Ryde, about 10.45am on Sunday following reports a man had been restrained by members of the public.

A 60-year-old woman had entered the shopping centre’s bathrooms when she noticed a man in the next stall allegedly attempting to film her.

With the help of a passerby, a 31-year-old man, the accused was restrained until officers from Ryde Police Area Command arrived.

Police seized the man’s phone before taking him to Gladesville Police Station, where he was charged with observing a person in a private act without consent, peeping or prying, filming a person in a private act without consent, and three counts of common assault.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Burwood Local Court on Monday, September 8.
