Police are on the scene after an early morning car crash that has claimed the life of a young driver in Sydney.

A man beleived to be in his 20s has died following the single vehicle crash in the western Sydney suburb of Blacktown.

About 4:30am on Thursday, emergency services were called to Walters Road in Blacktown, following reports a hatchback had collided with a tree.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and tried to assist the man however, he died at the scene.

The man is yet to be formally identified and a report will now be prepared for the information of the coroner.

Officers from the Blacktown police area command have established a crime scene, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

Walters Road is blocked in both directions from Bungarribee Road to Douglas Road and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
