An 18-year-old driver has been killed after her car collided with a bus on a popular road south of Perth on Saturday night.

The tragedy unfolded when the teenager’s Mercedes C200 sedan collided with a white Mitsubishi Rosa minibus at the intersection of Tuart Drive and Bussell Highway in Yalyalup, near Busselton, about 6.30pm.

The driver died at the scene. Her 17-year-old passenger was seriously injured and taken to Bunbury Regional Hospital.

The bus driver, a 23-year-old man, was not hurt.

Anyone with any information about the crash, or who saw either the Mercedes or minibus driving prior, is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online.

It comes after a 40-year-old man died at the same intersection in April after his motorbike collided with another vehicle, while a 69-year-old man died in an accident in March 2023 when his motorcycle was hit by a car.

Calls from residents to change the speed limit from 110km/h to 80km/h were raised in June 2022 after a spate of serious crashes along Bussell Highway, including the death of a 29-year-old man who was killed after his ute collided with a large truck.

The South West road is a notorious hotspot for crashes, despite recent upgrades.
