Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control before putting it out about 7pm.

Headmaster Brett Webster said the fire broke out in the school’s Centre for Learning and Innovation.

“The fire occurred within the CLI, with damage mainly to the kitchen and cafe area,” he wrote on the school’s Facebook page.

“The fire is possibly the result of arson and the police have declared the area a crime scene.

“We can expect to commence the new semester as usual this week, albeit without access to the CLI for a period of time.

“While this is an extremely disappointing incident, I have no doubt our community will respond positively, despite the circumstances, to make the most of all the opportunities our new term will bring.”
