Paraglider dies after 20 metre fall in Mena Creek, Queensland

A man has died after a paragliding incident in Far North Queensland on Monday night.
Emergency services were called to Polich Road in Mena Creek at around 5.40pm after witnesses reported a paraglider had crashed.
Paramedics found a 63-year-old man from Utchee Creek in serious condition, with multiple leg and chest injuries.

The man had been using a motorised parachute when he fell roughly 20 metres.
Senior Sergeant Michele Rix said that the investigation into the situation is currently ongoing, however police believe he had launched from a nearby field with another man.
The other man is reportedly uninjured.
“The 63-year-old man encountered some sort of difficulty in the air before descending quickly and hitting the ground,” she said.

Police have seized both the paraglider and the paramotor for testing and have said they are unsure who owns the equipment or how experienced the men were with paragliding.
Senior Sergeant Rix said police are in contact with all affected parties.
“Obviously it’s a traumatic experience for witnesses, that man, and the deceased man’s family – police are providing all involved with support services”.
Innisfail Police will be preparing a report for the coroner.
