Police reveal women and child were inside home during Yengarie siege leaving rookie officer shot and man dead
Officers dragged their wounded colleague to safety while under gunfire.
New details have emerged after a siege left a police officer shot and a man dead, with police revealing two women and a child were inside the home at the time.
Officers arrived at a home on Horizon Ct in Yengarie, on Queensland’s Fraser Coast, after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident about 5.54pm on Friday.

The 36-year-old officer was on his final shift as an FYC and rescued by his colleagues, who performed urgent first aid while under gunfire.
They then dragged the rookie officer about 100m to safety before an ambulance arrived.
Nearby streets were locked down while the officer was rushed to Maryborough Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.
He was then taken to Hervey Bay Hospital before being flown by helicopter to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for ongoing treatment.
The Queensland Police Union said he is now in a stable condition and are in the process of notifying his family.
“I’m incredibly proud of the actions of the officers on the ground,” Inspector Paul Algie said.
“The officers that were working with the FYC that was shot saved his life through their heroic actions.”
Algie said the officers involved were “obviously shaken and quite upset at what had occurred to not only their partner, but also their friend”.
Meanwhile, specialist police travelled to the scene and were seen in camouflage, arming themselves with rifles inside an exclusion zone established around the home.
Power was shut off to the area while police were “attempting to engage” with the man.
But a search of the property at about 9.21pm revealed the 45-year-old man had died.
District Officer Acting Superintendent Brad Inskip said two women and a child were at the property during the incident.
“They self-extracted (and) there’s no indication that they’re actually being held hostage,” he said.
Inskip confirmed the shooter was known to police and not a licensed firearms holder.
“It does appear the male died from a gunshot wound,” Inskip said, adding the circumstances of how he suffered the wound would form part of the investigation.
Police said no other officers or members of the public had been injured.
Parallel investigations into the incident will be led by police and the Ethical Standard Command, overseen by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
