Anthony Baines: Uber driver turned action hero as customer pick up becomes wild police chase

An Uber driver’s night at work took a wild action-move turn after he was thrust into an intense police pursuit by local officers in Houston.

Anthony Baines was on the way to pick up a rider on August 8, before his night was flipped on its head when a shirtless man ran past his car just after midnight.

In hot pursuit were two police officers chasing after the man, when one decided give way to the foot chase and enlist Baines’ help.

Footage from the Uber driver’s dash cam shows the officer jump into his passenger seat

“Hey give me a ride over there please,” the female officer said

“That way, go, go, go, go.”

Despite the hectic situation, Baines remained calm and joined the chase — picking up the other officer before high-tailing it in the suspects direction.

Baines drove the cops a few streets down to their car before the pair jumped out, leaving the perplexed driver to continue his night of work.

Police had been responding to a nearby threat call, where a man allegedly threatened to shoot a woman and her child according to The Sun.

The suspect had broken free while they tried to detain him and the wild chase ensued.

Houston police officer union president Doug Griffin commended Baines’ swift cooperation.

“There’s nothing that prohibits anyone from doing it,” he said, according to The Sun.

“There is also nothing that prohibits them from going, ‘no, I’m not going to do that, I don’t want to be involved.’

“There’s nothing that forces or compels anyone to help out.”
