Prosecutors allege teens accused of Oliver Conroy murder wanted social media fame
Seven teens were charged after the victim was allegedly bashed with a motorcycle helmet and run over with his own car.
The seven teenagers accused of murdering a young man following an alleged fake-date ambush allegedly carried it out in a bid to gain notoriety on social media, prosecutors have told a court.
Oliver Conroy, 27, was allegedly lured to Kelvin Grove in Brisbane’s inner-north on July 24 after three underage girls posed as 18-year-olds and arranged to meet him for sex in exchange for $100.

Police allege Conroy was ambushed in the car park of Kelvin Grove State College, robbed and violently bashed before the group used his own car to run him over.

He was found in a life-threatening condition on the street and taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he succumbed to his “catastrophic injuries” on August 6, almost two weeks later.
Seven teenagers, five boys aged between 15 and 17 and two girls aged 14 and 15, have been charged with murder following his death.
The charges were upgraded after Conroy died, under Queensland’s “adult crime, adult time” laws.

The 15-year-old’s defence lawyer argued he played a lesser role in the alleged attack than other teenagers who had already been granted bail.
The judge acknowledged delays meant a trial was unlikely to begin before next year and granted the boy bail under strict conditions, including 24-hour home detention, an ankle monitor and a ban on social media use.
