Qantas is running what it describes as its largest sale in five years, cutting the costs of 1.9 million fares.

The sale begins on Tuesday and is open for six days, applying to one-way tickets on 25 domestic routes on select dates.

“This is the largest domestic sale we’ve had in five years,” Qantas domestic chief executive Markus Svensson said.

“We’ve got some of the best holiday destinations right on our doorstep, and this sale puts them within reach for more people.

“From hidden regional gems to capital city favourites, we’re making it easier to discover our own backyard.

“With almost two million seats and great value fares in both business and economy, it’s a fantastic time to lock in that next holiday to explore Australia or reconnect with friends and family.”

Notable discount fares include one-way between Byron Bay and Sydney, in economy, for $99.

Business seats between Melbourne and Sydney are also subject to savings, on the block for $299.

Typically expensive flights to the top end are also set to be reduced, with tickets between Darwin and Melbourne cut to $289.

While the largest sale in five years should drive travellers to the Qantas website, the consumer watchdog last week was forced to issue warnings over a sophisticated scam offering travel credits, refunds and loyalty points.

The National Anti-Scam Centre revealed Qantas, Telstra and Coles are now the three most targeted loyalty programs.

“These messages often direct people to websites that closely resemble our official login pages,” a Qantas spokesperson said of the latest scam.
