Bruce Highway: One dead, two fighting for life after bus rolls on at Gumlu in the Whitsunday region

One person is dead and at least two passengers are fighting for life after a bus rolled on a busy Queensland Highway.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the serious crash on Bruce Highway at Gumlu in the Whitsundays region at 4pm on Thursday.

Two passengers were being treated for significant head injuries and multi-system trauma, and 27 more were being assessed.
A spokesperson for Queensland Ambulance Service said 29 passengers were aboard the bus as it travelled on the highway in a remote area of the north-east coast.
Eleven ambulances as well as two helicopters and a Royal Flying Doctor Service plane attended the scene.
No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the incident, with Queensland Ambulance Service confirming to AAP that three stable patients had left the scene.
“All we know is that (the bus) left the roadway and rolled on its side,” a Queensland Police spokeswoman said.
“We’re not sure how it happened.”
The driver escaped the crash with only minor injuries.
