Cabarita Beach shark attack: Surfer fights off beast as board bitten in half at NSW beach

Locals have watched on in horror after a surfer known only as ‘Brad’ was attacked by a shark which left his board with a giant bite mark straight through the middle.
The attack, which the surfer miraculously survived, comes weeks after a teenager was mauled in an attack at the same beach.
An early morning surf session at Cabarita Beach on the NSW north coast turned to terror as the shark launched and left the surfer desperately trying to fend off the attack, using his board to protect him from the predator.

The surfboard was hanging together by a thread back on the beach and fell apart into two bits after the surfer showed it to the crowd of onlookers on the beach.
The Courier Mail reported that local onlookers said drone footage recently captured a four-metre great white shark in the area.
The incident occurred only six weeks after a 16-year-old boy was attacked and bitten by a shark at the same surf break and had to be rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
Footage of the June 29 attack on the teenager captured him swimming near a group of surfers before a shark appears behind him and drags him underwater. Drone footage released days later showed a larger bull shark in waters off the same headland.
NSW Police have confirmed they are aware of the event and the local council have also been informed.
Councillor James Owen took to Facebook to say: “Tweed Shire, Cabarita Beach at Norries Headland is currently closed due to a shark bite incident earlier this morning. Thankfully no one was injured.”
Tweed resident Kim Maree, who posted video on Facebook from the beach straight after the attack said: “A bit of drama on the beach after I filmed the beautiful sunrise. Another shark attack! I was swimming there this morning too.”
