Cairns: Man dead, woman injured in horror jetski crash

A day out on the water has turned to tragedy after a man died in a horror jetski crash in Cairns.

The 56-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman were on a jetski on the Barron River when they ploughed into mangroves north of the Stratford Boat Ramp at about 10.30am on Friday.

The pair, both from Brinsmead, were thrown into the water.

The man was declared deceased at the scene after suffering fatal head and chest injuries and the woman has been taken to hospital with shoulder and chest injuries in a stable condition.

Queensland Police’s forensic crash unit is investigating and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
