Child dead, person missing after fire at unit complex

A child is dead and another person remains missing after an early morning fire at a unit complex in Queensland.

Emergency services were called to a townhouse on Bayside Court in Thorneside, east of Brisbane, about 7.15am on Sunday.

Queensland Police Chief Inspector Karl Hahne said authorities feared the missing person had also died in the fire.

“One person is still unaccounted for however, we have a strong belief that person is also in the fire scene,” he said.

“I can say completely that for the next few hours, maybe in a couple of days, there will be an ongoing investigation.”

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed a third person was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital in a stable condition.
