A young woman killed after being struck by lightning in a freak weather event has been remembered by her mother as a much-loved “beautiful and caring” daughter.

Finley Bone, 21, was practicing goal kicking at the Cooroy Sporting Complex with her partner when she struck by a bolt of lightning on Thursday afternoon.

Critical care paramedics rushed to the oval, and Finley was taken to Nambour Hospital in a life-threatening condition.

She could not be saved and died a short time later from her injuries in hospital.

Finley’s mother Donna Markert said the family was in disbelief and that there was no warning lightning was going to strike with no rain falling.

“No one can believe this happened,” she told 7NEWS.

“Finley was 21 and had her life taken away in a minute.”

A passionate footballer, Finley was in the prems team for Noosa Lions Soccer Club and helped train a junior squad.

“She was a beautiful, kind and caring young woman taken in the prime of her life,” Markert said.

“Fin was a sports tragic. We are taking some solace in knowing she was doing something she loved and was with someone she loved. It is just tragic.”

Markert thanked emergency services for their efforts during the ensuing storm.

“Our heartfelt thanks to the emergency team who responded in minutes and the emergency department at Nambour Hospital, they gave us next level care,” she said.

“We are a close-knit family, and today we are spending time with Fin’s older brothers and sister, nephews, aunties and uncles.”

Queensland Police said a report is being prepared for the coroner.

Football Queensland released a statement acknowledging the death of one of its community members.

“Football Queensland is aware of the tragic passing of a member of our football community following an incident at Cooroora United Football Club on Thursday,” they said.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and members of the club and football community who have been impacted.”

The state football board said all football activities at the club will remain suspended until further notice.

Cooroora United Football Club sent a message to members confirming the incident.

“We wish to acknowledge an unexpected incident occurring at the CUFC grounds this evening, at approximately 5pm,” they said on Thursday.

“Out of privacy for those directly impacted, it is not yet appropriate to share details of the incident, though it is important to share that those in and around the grounds, including both members and emergency services, showed admirable action, respect and care for each other.

“We ask our CUFC community to remain respectful online, avoid any unhelpful speculation, and check-in with one another.

“Lastly, we ask for patience while the club and community navigate this and ensure we are maintaining a supportive environment to those who need it.”
