A KFC worker has raised eyebrows by standing on a benchtop used for food service to clean equipment.

A photo of the worker’s act at a Queensland store was sent to 7NEWS by a customer concerned about the hygiene of the practice.

The photo shows the worker had removed her shoes and climbed onto the benchtop to reach the top of a food warmer appliance that appears to be full of cooked chicken.

KFC has confirmed the practice was not in line with its hygiene policy and the franchise would be investigated.

“KFC is committed to ensuring our food preparation and hygiene processes meet and exceed Australian standards, including Australian Work Health and Safety requirements, to keep our customers and employees safe,” a company spokesperson said.

“We expect every restaurant to comply with these standards and are investigating the incident with the franchisee and management team.

“Action will be taken to ensure our high standards are met in the future.”
