“Never eating Crust Pizza again,” one person said.
“This is wild,” another person commented.
A spokesperson for the store told 7NEWS.com.au they were aware of the video circulating online.
They said the store’s front door was left open for a short period while a staff member was working in the back kitchen.
“The door was left open accidentally, and the pigeon just flew in straight away.
“That was an unfortunate day … since the incident has happened, we have taken some precautions so it won’t happen again.”
He said staff had been instructed to keep doors closed when possible and keep lids on topping containers.
Crust Pizza’s head office said a number of changes had been implemented since the incident.
“We can confirm that all appropriate operational procedures were immediately implemented including disposal of all food items, deep cleaning of the area, full store commercial clean and pest control,” a spokesperson said.
“A comprehensive Food Standards Review has also been conducted, and operational best practice reinforced across the network of Crust stores to mitigate any future unexpected visitation.
“Now equipped with an electrical bird deterrent device, we can confirm that the store is once again open for business, creating the most delicious and Crust-worthy pizzas on the market.”
