One unlucky camper is facing a hefty bill after their trip went horribly wrong when their car became completely submerged underwater.

Fraser Island Towing posted pictures to Facebook showing a K’gari (formerly Fraser Island) FWD trip gone drastically wrong.

A white Jeep — snorkel and all — and a fully packed camping trailer is seen engulfed by water at high tide off the shores of the popular holiday island.

“These campers’ trip to Coongal Creek on the Western Side of the island didn’t go to plan,” the company wrote.

Other photos show the Jeep and trailer slowly emerging as the tide moves out, allowing two towing trucks to pull the swamped possessions out of the ocean.

The service revealed they were forced to call in another company to assist them.

“4wd and Trailer recovered by Fraser Island Towing and Rainbow Beach Towing, with extra caution due to the unforgiving terrain on that side of the island.”

The disaster is estimated to be a costly one, with the car estimated to cost around $54,000.

Some commenters questioned how the nightmare happened.

“As the owner of a 2 door Jeep, these things are the most capable 4x4s money can buy. I can’t get mine bogged if I try. So either they drove into an extremely soft bog hole, or they had no idea what they were doing,” one wrote.

“Too late now to offer all this experienced advice…of unhooking the trailer and recovering the vehicle separately…but hopefully someone else reading this can get some insight and knowledge before they attempt beach driving on the incoming tide!” another commented.

“If that’s the angle they tried doing a u-turn at in soft sand no wonder they got bogged. Hard not to be judgemental but possibly some inexperience here. Seem to be a lot of that lately on the western side, inexperience leading to bad outcomes,” wrote a third.

Others expressed their sympathies for the unlucky campers.

“Oh those poor people 😟,” one commented.

“A 60K camping trip: Jeep 40K, trailer 15K, 5K towing services 🙁,” another wrote.
