Mackay: Motorbike rider killed after colliding with stray cow on road at Glenella

A motorbike rider has been killed in horrific circumstances after a cow strayed onto a highway and collided with the rider at high speed.

Police were called to Sugarshed Road near Glenella Connection Road in Glenella, Mackay shortly before 2am on Sunday, after hearing reports that a motorcycle had struck a cow.

The rider, a 27-year-old Sarina man, was transported to Mackay Base Hospital in a critical condition, but died a short time later.

Initial investigations indicate the motorcycle was overtaking a vehicle when it struck the cow in the oncoming lane.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash.
