Human remains have been found inside a crocodile after a search for a missing fisherman.

Police and wildlife officers located the crocodile on Friday night along Watson River at Aurukun in far north Queensland, where it was humanely euthanised.

Forensic testing on Saturday revealed human remains inside the crocodile, and police say further testing will be conducted to identify the remains.

The family of the missing 60-year-old Aurukun man and the local council have been advised.

The man had been reported missing after he was last seen leaving home on January 30.

A major search was launched with SES volunteers, wildlife rangers, aerial support and community members conducting foot patrols and searching the river on boats.

Police thanked members of the Aurukun community for their support and assistance.
