Major update after baby boy Luka burned with coffee by stranger in Brisbane park
A baby boy who suffered severe burns after being scalded by hot coffee in a heartless attack by a stranger at a Brisbane park has been released from hospital — but still has a long recovery ahead.
Nine-month-old baby Luka was playing with his mother at Hanlon Park in Stones Corner on Tuesday, August 27, when a man allegedly doused him with a scalding drink from a thermos leaving him seriously injured.
“It was all very quick and chaotic,” the baby’s mother, who cannot be identified, told 7NEWS last week.

He started screaming and yelling. I poured our drink bottle of water on him ... ripping his clothes off.”
Luka was rushed to Queensland Children’s Hospital and has since endured multiple rounds of critical surgery, having suffered burns to his chin, neck, face, chest and back in the “cowardly” and “random” attack. His third surgery was on Monday, with previous procedures revealing he could be left with scars under his neck and chest.
But Wednesday was a happier day for the family, as Luka was finally allowed to return home after a week in hospital.
In a social media post, the mother said they had “been home for a few hours and he’s already knocked his head”.
Although, Luka’s hospital visits are far from over, with his next procedure scheduled for Friday.
“It’s gonna be a great few months. Back to hospital on Friday and then Monday to start the grafting process.”
Last Friday, the mother said Luka was in good spirits despite the horror event.
“He seems like his happy self again, which is nice to see because the last few days have been really, really hard,” the mother told reporters, fighting back tears.
“He’s doing good. He’s actually playing.”
But the woman said she was still reeling from the incident and was fearful of another.
“I play it over in my head constantly,” she said.
“Last night, I had a panic attack, thinking that he’s going to hurt someone else because he’s out there.
“If he can do this to an innocent baby, he can do a lot worse. I don’t want any more harm to anyone.”
A GoFundMe page for the infant has raised more than $90,000 to support the family.
“It’s restored my faith in the community and there is kindness out there,” the mother said.
The alleged attacker, who fled the park, is still at large despite a week of police searches and public appeals.
Queensland Police have released images of a man they want to speak to in relation to the incident.
He is described as being between 30-40 years old and dressed in a black hat, glasses, a shirt and shorts.
